Galaxy S5 Custom ROM of the Week! [#1]

For this week’s Galaxy S5 custom ROM of the Week, we’ve got some good custom ROMs like Clinch ROM, BobCat ROM, Rick’s ROM, and CM11.

Clinch ROM

First, let’s start with Clinch ROM by XDA user Brhoomy101.  Clinch ROM is based on international SM-G900F but can be installed on AT&T Galaxy S5 (SM-G900A), T-Mobile S5 (SM-G900T), Canadian S5 (SM-G900W8), and other Qualcomm-based international S5 models (SM-G900F, SM-G900M, SM-G900I).

Based on Android 4.4.2, Clinch ROM features custom animations, custom Windows theme, and also ability to switch to 20+ different TouchWiz themes. The modded TouchWiz launcher is super-fast and also comes with a cool Windows-themed keyboard. And also feature Windows-themed reboot menu.

Overall, Clinch ROM is fast, stable, and beautiful so definitely give this ROM a go if you are looking for fast and stable ROM with fun features.

Rick’s ROM

For Verizon and Sprint Galaxy S5, check out Rick’s ROM.

Based on latest Android 4.4.4 Verizon firmware, Rick’s ROM is a super-clean stable ROM without all the bloatware. Also the TouchWiz launcher has been modded, resulting in super fast experience with a 5×4 grid along with no delay in home button.  Also Rick’s ROM does support full ART so you can experience some extra boost in performance.

Although this ROM is Verizon ROM, you can easily install it on Sprint S5 by adding Sprint APN and also MMS can work easily by swapping with Sprint MMS apk file. (Running 100% flawless on my Sprint S5.) But make sure you have Sprint NI3 Android 4.4.4 firmware as it will not install on older 4.4.2 firmware.

Based on Android 4.4.2, Bobcat ROM is one of my favorite custom ROMs for the Galaxy Note 3 and S4.  Bobcat ROM for the S5 is better than ever, featuring several different Bobcat themes (and also you can get additional TouchWiz themes by installing the TouchWiz Themes zip file) and a ton of customization including quad multi-window, sound boost, custom drop-down images, and more.

If you are looking for a fast and stable TouchWiz ROM with a slew of customization/tweaks, Bobcat ROM is the way to go.  My all-time favorite, so definitely check this ROM out if you haven’t yet, you will like it a lot as a daily driver.

Lastly but not least, if you want a solid AOSP (What is AOSP?) pure Google experience and turn your S5 into a super Nexus 5, check out latest CM11 ROM nightlies.

The latest CM11 nightlies have everything working out of the box including NFC (which was broke last time we looked at it).  It’s a near flawless experience with latest CM11 nightlies so definitely give this guy a go if you have an S5 model that supports it.
