Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM + Root for Galaxy S5! [CM12 Beta]

For those of you who want to taste the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, you don’t have to wait until Samsung updates their firmware, which could be months away.

Better, just grab the latest CM12 ROM beta, which is a full Android 5.0 Lollipop custom ROM that will give you every Lollipop feature including the vastly improved performance (near 20-30% improvement in Antutu benchmarks as shown in video, which matches Note 4 stock Antutu benchmarks!!!), battery life (along with battery saver feature which can save you in emergencies), and superfluid UI, which you can actually feel.

For root, CM12 ROM comes with root by default so you don’t have to worry about anything but just installing.  UPDATE: To get full root, please flash latest SuperSU zip file (see below) otherwise you will not get full root.

Best of all, this CM12 “beta” version is nearly perfect as everything including camera, NFC, voice, 4G LTE, and bluetooth are working out of the box. In fact, this is the best Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM I have seen other than a real Nexus device (like Nexus 5, Nexus 10). It’s so good I am using my T-Mobile S5 as daily driver for this whole week and have encountered zero problems.

Even then, I do highly suggest making a backup ROM just in case you miss your ol’ TouchWiz ROM so you can easily restore back at any time after.

Overall, the CM12 Beta ROM for Galaxy S5 is one of the most solid Android 5.0 Lollipop ROMs I have tried so far so definitely give this guy a go this week(end) if you want to see the best and latest from Google’s Android OS. And yes, do let me know what you think but I think you will love it for sheezy.

    Hi Max,

I successfully installed on my G900I and it’s going well only issue is that I can no longer long press the recent apps capacitive button to bring up the menu. This wouldn’t be so much of a problem except that there is no on-screen button to open the menu in Google Chrome. i have tried enabling the on-screen navigation keys by adding the line “qemu.hw.mainkeys=0” which worked, and strangely enough the on-screen menu button appeared in chrome after this. Is there a way I can fix this without using the on-screen buttons?

  56. Manny says:

OK I need a little help. I was able to flash with no issues. Everything seems to be working just fine, except that I can not view any pictures from SD card. Gallery shows 0 total. In the settings it shows the options to mount and erase SD card. Once pressed it does nothing. If I pull the SD card, the options gray out. Any clue on how to get it to readand display the files without formatting.

Hey when will we see an update for this rom? Thanks

  64. Josue says:

Successfully installed on my Galaxy S5 SM-G900T from T-Mobile. The only issue I’ve encountered so far is that there’s no way to take screenshots. I must’ve done something wrong. I love how the ROM performs and looks. Its just perfect. The only thing I miss besides the screenshot thing is the WiFi Calling feature from T-Mobile. It seems like it won’t be included ever. I understand, it is hard to decode and stuff, but it’d be really nice if there was a way to add that feature.
If there are any newer versions of this ROM, please tell me to update. Or does it update automatically using the integrated CM Updater? So far I’ve been pleases with the ROM. No disappointment at all.

Installed CM12 Beta on my S5 SM-G900F. So far I am absolutely impressed of its performance. One little issue, i have, is the bluetooth feature. I’ve paired my phone with the Bose OE Sound Link Headset and when I’m listen to music there are distortions.

    • Pablo says:

I have the same issue with my G900F, paired it with a Sena SMH5 headset and when I listen to music it distorts and skips.

  72. Noob says:

Does not appear that the CM ROM is stable. I installed it and the GAPPS, no Google Play, phone keeps rebooting, none of my accounts are there and they cannot be added for some reason. All-in-all, I do NOT recommend the CM ROM.

    • Noob says:

Also, SuperSU is installed but will not open, File Manager will not browse the SD card without root access but cannot be given root access because SuperSU won’t run… huge headache.

  73. john says:

Hey max I’m curious if this new ROM has working hotspot/tethering out of the box. ID really appreciate the feedback. Thanks a lot.

    • Owie437 says:

My Sprint Galaxy S5 hotspot not working, devices connect, but internet functionality is blocked, blue tooth tethering doesn’t work either. Suggestions?

  74. nick says:

Installed without any system errors or issues

However, I will be uninstalling. This ROM is not very stable. I have not managed to pull 24 hours on my battery, and the power saving options are lacking. Using stock ROM I was getting 1 Day 23 hours and 40-55 minutes before hitting 2% battery life remaining.

I am not a fan of the settings screen. The look of this is very cheap and looks rushed. The notification menu is too busy looking.

I do like the lock screen and how its designed to display notifications.

I also found that the way the interface is designed its not suitable for the device.

I anticipate that the official Samsung release will not look like this, but it was fun giving it a shot. Just not prepared to lose my battery life for a device that I can get nearly 48 hours of use without enabling any power saving options.

  75. DB says:

If you flash this ROM to your S5, DO NOT use Screen Pinning! If you pin a screen, you cannot un-pin it do to the “Overview” and “Back” buttons on the S5 not supporting both being touched at the same time (which is the only way to un-pin). Also, I have yet to find a way to apply custom text tones to individual contacts. If this feature is not included in Lollipop, I will be uninstalling and going back to stock.

    Very disappointed.

    I ended up flashing with a CM12 nightly (3/21) –

Been using it for a couple of days now. Pretty stable and I haven’t run into any issues yet. The only craziness I encountered was upon booting up the phone for the first time, some crazy ringer noise was constantly on. I had to silent my phone to get rid of it. It disappeared on it’s own though after playing with the phone for a while.

Other than that, CM12 on the S5 is pretty awesome. I tried the Lollipop TouchWiz ROM and it was the worse thing ever, super slow and battery sucked. In comparison, CM12 working buttery smooth and batter life seems decent.
